岡本太郎作「明日の神話」
＜Taro Okamoto “myth of tomorrow”＞

「明日の神話」は原子爆弾が爆発する瞬間を描いた絵です。
凶悪にむくむくと広がるキノコ雲、中央で炎に包まれる恐ろしい骸骨、
燃えながら逃げる人間や動物、毒々しい赤い色彩が画面を
横切り画面全体から不幸なオーラを放っています。

“myth of tomorrow” is a painting depicting an explosion of an Atomic bomb.
The clouds which are expanding furiously, a horrible skeleton who is enveloped
in flames at the center, burning people who are fleeing,
lurid red which cuts across the picture,….
It’s emitting an unhappy aura from the whole picture.

岡本太郎の遺作として2003年9月メキシコで発見されたこの絵は
以後日本に戻り修復作業を終え2008年11月JR渋谷駅と井の頭線
渋谷駅を結ぶ連絡通路に恒久設置されました。

In Sept. 2003, This picture was found as Taro Okamoto’s
posthumous work in Mexico. After the restoration work was done,
it was permanently hung on accessway between Shibuya station
of JR line and Shibuya station of Inogashira line in Nov, 2008.

＜中央で不気味に燃える骸骨＞

私は渋谷から井の頭線で一つ目の神泉に住んでいます。
つまり私は毎日のようにその日からこの絵の前を通らざる
を得なくなったのです。
岡本太郎の生き様や、作品を嫌いではないけれど、私は
この作品を当初からどうしても好きになれませんでした。
この巨大な絵からはとてつもない不吉なオーラがでています。
今日を明るく頑張ろうと目的地に向かっていてもこの絵の前に
来ると否応なく不幸な気持ちにさせられます。忘れては
ならない辛い過去を毎日のように必ず思い出させられるのです。
原爆の恐怖。
私はなるべく絵を見ないですむように、この絵の近くに来ると身構え
下を向いて足早に通り過ぎることにしていました。

I live in Shinsen it’s next to Shibuya station of the Inogashira line.
So, I have to through in front of “myth of tomorrow” almost every day.
I don’t hate Taro Okamoto’s life and his works though, I can’t like
this picture from the beginning.
A monstrous ominous aura is given off from this huge picture.
Even if I was going to my destination with a happy and positive heart,
when I came at this picture, I was forced willy-nilly to feel unhappy.
It reminds me of a terrible past which we have to remember.

A fear of Atomic bomb.

I always walked with my head down when I came at here because
I didn’t want to see it.

ここを毎日通る人はほとんどがマークシティか井の頭線の利用者に
限られています。
設置場所に明らかに誤りがあったと思っています。この絵は美術館
など目的を持ってこの絵を見に来てくれる人が見る場所に飾られる
べきでした。一定の人だけが日々通る場所でなく。

I’m thinking that they(organizer) got the wrong installation site
for this picture, because only certain people can see it like me.
“myth of tomorrow” should have been displayed at an appropriate place
where people purposefully come to see, that kind of museum.

＜平日でも人で溢れている原宿も閑散としています＞
＜Harajuku where is always full of tourists is quiet ＞

そして今、私にとってこの絵はまるで不吉な予言のようにみえます。
地震や津波で大きな被害を受けた被災者の方々、そして暖房を切り
節電し、募金や物資を送り復興に共に協力し合おうと力を合わせる
人々。どんな自然災害にもきっと私たちは手を取り合って立ち向かえる、
日本はそうして歴史を作って来た国だから。でも放射能は
そうした人々の必至の努力や善意や思いやりを、住むべく大地を、
奪い取ってしまう・・。皮肉なことに、
人間が作ったものに対して私たちはなすすべを知らない。

And now, I’m feeling that this picture is like a evil prophecy.
Victims who had gotten a serious damage by earthquake and Tsunami,
people who join hands to help victims by making donations,
saving electricity and donating everyday goods.
We will endure and conquer any natural disaster.
However, called radioactivity, the horrible monster eats up all
bloody effort, good intentions and compassionate mind of the
people, and wrests everything from us forever and ever.
Ironically, we are unprepared for human-made disaster.

今、自分の生命をかけて原発の事故現場の復旧に当たって下さっている
方々がいます。その方たちのお陰で、今の私たちは明日の一日
一日をかろうじて暮らしてゆけてるということを忘れてはいけません。

Now, there are people who are performing reconstruction work in
Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant at the risk of their lives.
We must never forget that we can barely lead a life
one day at a time thanks to their sacrifice.

今回の大災害を海外の友人達がサポートしてくれています。
いつでもそばにいて協力するからとメッセージをくれました。
そう、大丈夫、けっして独りじゃない。
