これは約一年前、2010年３月８日に撮影した渋谷駅前の夜景です。

This is a picture of Shibuya station road which I took on March,8,2010
around 1 year ago.

この日は雨が降っていて、雨に光る地面に光が反射して
“いかにも”渋谷の派手ばでとした夜の光景をいっそうと
際立たせていて思わずシャッターを切ったのでした。
交差点には３つの巨大ビジョンが別々の画像を流していて
それぞれ大音量で”何か”を宣伝してました。

It was raining that night, and then I thought that this flashy
scene was like a typical chaotic sight of Tokyo.
It was a shiny with the lights glistening off the rain,
so it seemed very bright than usual.
There were 3 big-screen TV on the walls of the buildings,
and each screen was advertising “something” at full volume.

この時の私はこの「いかにも」な風景をカオスな東京
として日記にでもアップしようかな・・・
なんて愉快な気持ちで撮影したのを覚えています。
結局そのブログを書くことはなかったけれど。
今この写真をみる私の気持ちをあのときの私には１mgも
想像することはできなかったでしょう。

At the time, I was thinking to upload this photo on my blog,
as “scene of typical chaotic Tokyo”. I remember that
I felt amusing mood then. Eventually I didn’t upload it.
The I of this time would not imagine how I feel now.

一年後の今、
夜の東京はとても暗くて静かです。
渋谷駅前の３つの大型ビジョンは消えていて、街灯もビルの照明も
ところどころついているだけ。デパートや電車の中さえも節電で暗い。

One year later, Tokyo night is very dark and quiet.
3 big-screen TVs in front of Shibuya station were off, and
street lights and illuminations of buildings were turned off the light
everywhere. It’s dark even in the department stores and trains.

でも私も私の周りの人たちも、だれもこの状況に不満を持っている
人はいないのです。「返ってこの方がいい」
と言っている人がたくさんいるのです。
長く不況時代を生きて来た我々にとってはこっちの方が
むしろ合ってる気さえします。
買い物もエコバックもって「袋はいりません」と言う方が
いまやしっくり来る私。
私たちの生活と煌煌と光り輝く街の間には本当はとっくに大きな
ひずみが生まれていたのじゃないでしょうか。

However, no one has discontented faces around me.
Every one and I are thinking that “that’s better than before”
We have lived through the time of long recession, so
This situation is more realistic for us.
I feel that truthfully there were a big gap for so long time
between our life and ablaze city.

これからは身の丈にあった暮らしをしてゆければそれでいい。
大型ビジョンが二度とともらなくても、街から騒音が消え去っても
夜道が多少暗くてもむしろその方が落ち着く・・・
人間は本当はそういう風にできている。
暗闇の中に星空を見つけられたらその方がずっと嬉しいと。

We want to become more of ourselves from now on.
Even if big-screen TV never be turned on again,
the noise disappear from the town ever,
it’s a little bit dark on the street at night,
It would be more comfortable for us.
That’s the way of human being.
If we can find the starry sky in the dark, it’s happier for us.
